An elderly woman has been taken to John Hunter Hospital with serious head injuries after an alleged domestic incident at Nelson Bay.
Police set up a crime scene at the Armidale Avenue home on Thursday morning after the 71-year-old was rushed to hospital.
The Newcastle Herald understands the woman fell during an altercation with her 74-year-old husband.
The husband has not been arrested and is understood to be assisting police with their investigation.
The exact condition of the 71-year-old woman was not clear at the time of publication.
