Woman, 70, dies in hospital 10 days after crash in Ashington

A pensioner has died in hospital 10 days after a car crash

Kathleen Marshall was seriously injured when her car was involved in a collision with an HGV and another car in Ashington .

The 70-year-old, from Morpeth, was taken to hospital following the smash, which happened at around 10.55am on January 8.

But she died as a result of her injuries on Saturday.

Police have now renewed their appeal for witnesses to the collision, involving a yellow Peugeot 1007, a black Vauxhall Zafira and a HGV.

It happened at the junction of Woodhorn Lane and Wansbeck Hospital.

"Our experienced family liaison officers continue to offer them support, and I would ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with their loss.

"We are committed to finding out the circumstances behind the collision, and as a result I am appealing to any witnesses who have yet to come forward to pick up the phone and get in touch.

"Your information, however small or insignificant you may feel it is, could prove crucial as we look to establish the cause of the collision and the events that immediately preceded it.”

Anybody who saw the collision, or who was passing through the area at the time and may have dashcam footage, is asked to call  Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 353 080120.

Sergeant Dave Roberts, of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols department, said: "This was a very serious incident which had sadly resulted in Kathleen’s death. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this tragic time.
