Woman, 68, who may have been fatally ran over by her own car has been named

A woman who police say may have been run over by her own car after falling out has been named as Sandra Jones.

The 68-year-old was seriously injured after being involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta outside her home in Clarence Street, Leigh on December 3.

She was rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary, but could not be saved and later died.

Following her death, police launched an investigation to try and piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

In a statement, GMP said: "There is some suggestion that the woman was driving the car herself before she lost control of the vehicle and fell out.

"The car then continued reversing before driving over her."

An inquest into Mrs Jones' death opened at Bolton Coroners' Court last week and was adjourned until May 7.

Her provisional cause of death was given as 'multiple injuries'.

Following her death, neighbours described Mrs Jones as 'a lovely lady' and expressed their shock at what had happened.

An eyewitness who saw the collision's aftermath said they saw two women rush to Mrs Jones' aid.

They added: "It was awful. She was lay on the floor and the car had reversed into a garden wall."
