Woman, 68, left critically injured after being hit by car in Miles Platting

A woman is critically ill in hospital after being hit by a car in Miles Platting.

It happened on Oldham Road, close to the junction with Naylor Street, just after 7pm on Wednesday, October 14.

A Ford Focus collided with a with a 68 year-old woman who its believed was crossing the road, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Emergency services including police and paramedics raced the scene, which was closed heading away from the city centre.

The air ambulance is said to have been scrambled.

However the woman was taken to hospital by road ambulance a North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) spokeswoman said.

She remains in a critical but stable condition GMP said this evening.

The driver of the Focus remained at the scene and has been assisting police with their enquiries, they added.

No arrests have been made and enquiries remain ongoing.

Police are now appealing for any potential witnesses or drivers with dash cam footage of the collision or its build up.

PC Phil Drummond from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a particularly nasty collision in which a lady has sustained serious injuries.  Our thoughts are with her and her loved ones at this difficult time.

“We are urging anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward and assist police in our enquiries. We’re particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dash cam footage of the white Ford Focus prior to the collision or footage of the collision itself.”

Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The road remained closed for several hours on Wednesday night while police dealt with the aftermath and began their enquiries.

Traffic was heading north east was diverted down Butler Street, Bradford Road and Alan Turing Way.
