Woman (67) dies after being hit by car near Newhouse

A 67 year-old woman has died after being hit by a car near Newhouse, North Lanarkshire, on Saturday.

The woman was crossing the B7066 Glasgow and Edinburgh Road near to its junction with Bothwellshields Road, when she was struck by a grey Seat Alhambra car at around 1.40pm on Saturday afternoon.

Police and ambulance attended, however the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her relatives are aware.

The 30-year-old female driver of the Seat and her passengers - a man and two children - were uninjured.

Sergeant Craig McDonald of the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell said: “Our investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has any information that may assist our enquiries to contact us. I would also appeal to anyone who was driving on the B7066 around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage to contact us.”

Any information can be passed to the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Motherwell Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 2071 of Saturday, August 8.
