Woman, 66, in hospital with serious injuries after hit-and-run with major road shut

A woman was rushed to hospital after a hit and run in Wythenshawe.

The woman, aged 66, suffered serious injuries.

Police said her condition is not believed to be life threatening.

She was hit by a car at the junction of Altrincham Road and Brownley Road just after 9am today. GMP said the vehicle did not remain at the scene.

An investigation has been launched, and officers remain at the scene this morning.

The road is closed off, and motorists are being advised to avoid the area. Follow live traffic updates here.

In a statement released to the M.E.N., GMP said: "Police were called at 9.10am on Saturday 22 August 2020 to a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian at the junction of Altrincham Road and Brownley Road, Wythenshawe.

"The pedestrian, a woman aged 66, was taken to hospital where she remains with serious injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

"The vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
