A woman found dead in a river in west London woodland died of natural causes, police have confirmed.

Detectives launched an appeal for witnesses after the body of a woman, 61, from the Feltham area was found in Donkey Wood off Staines Road in Hounslow, around 11.30pm on Tuesday.

Her death was initially treated as “unexpected and unexplained”.

Detectives said on Wednesday the woman’s Ford Fiesta was found near the scene, as they appealed for any witnesses to come forward, saying: “We have a family who are grieving and we will do all we can to support them and answer their questions.”

A post-mortem examination has now attributed the cause of death to natural causes, Scotland Yard confirmed on Friday evening.

The woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious and officers will now prepare a report for the coroner.

Nobody was arrested in connection with the investigation.

The woman’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
