Woman, 60, fell and dragged during attempted bag snatching in Belconnen

A 60-year-old woman fell over and was dragged a short distance during an attempted bag snatching in Belconnen on December 3, ACT Policing have said.

In a statement, police said about 4.10pm that day, the woman with a walker was crossing Benjamin Way outside Westfield Belconnen.

While on the crossing, a young man left a nearby vehicle and tried to take the woman's handbag from her walker.

"The woman fell over and was dragged a short distance before members of the public intervened," police said.

The man returned to the vehicle and left the scene empty handed.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, including anyone who saw a vehicle driving quickly on Benjamin Way or anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the area at the time to come forward.
