A woman has been taken to hospital tonight after a large-scale emergency response on the Ayrshire coast.
Multi-agencies, including the Coastguard, ambulance service and police raced to the scene at Newton Shore, Ayr shortly after 5pm.
It followed reports of a woman, aged 59, in the water.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland has confirmed the woman has now been taken to hospital.
Police have not yet confirmed the extent of any injuries at this stage.
The spokesperson said: "Police were called around 5.15pm following the report of a concern for person in the water at Newton Shore, Ayr.
"Emergency services attended and a 59-year-old woman has been taken to hospital."
