Woman reunited with long-lost dad after 58 years - and he lives just 1 hour away

A 59-year-old woman has been reunited with her dad after 58 years apart - and found out he was living just an hour away.

Julie Lund asked for help finding her dad Brian Rothery in a local community Facebook group and just four days later she found him.

She was born in 1962, and didn't know her biological dad while growing up.

Julie, from Yorkshire, had always wanted to meet him, but as a child, coped with his absence by not asking many questions.

However, after her mum and step-dad passed away this year, she decided to try and discover more about her biological father.

She posted in a local Facebook group asking for help, after which Brian received a message asking if he knew anyone called Julie.

The pair then met up for the first time in 58 years on October 12.

Julie wrote on Facebook: "What a fantastic day today was! Meeting my Dad for the first time since I was a baby!

"Thank you so much to all the lovely folk of Dewsbury! I've waited so long for this day and couldn't be happier.

"Looking forward to meeting the rest of the family soon!"

Julie told BBC News : "It just means the world to me.

"This year I've lost my mum and step-dad and then I've gained my dad and a lovely step-mum. It's absolutely incredible.

"I couldn't believe that after all these years I'd actually found my father and that he was still alive and kicking."

Brian said: "It was very much like a miracle had happened and I don't believe in miracles."

Julie replied: "We got one."

Due to family circumstances, Julie and Brian led separate lives for almost 60 years.

Brian said he had usually visited Julie on Sundays to talk and play with his daughter.

But one day he received a phone call saying the girl had been taken back to Lancashire, after which he never saw her again.

Talking about the moment she finally met her dad, Julie said: "I was just amazed, I just, it was like a piece of a jigsaw had fallen into place.

"I understood that he could have been anywhere, he could have emigrated, he could have been anywhere in the country.

"To find out that he was just over an hour's drive away was mind-blowing, you know.

"Makes me a little sad for all the time that we've lost, there's so many times that we could have been together."

Julie has repeatedly thanked all the people who helped her find her dad as she did not have many details on him before.

She has said she would not have found him without their help.
