Woman, 52, found dead after being dumped in lay-by and set on fire

This is the first picture of a woman who was found dead in a lay-by after being set on fire as a man arrested on suspicion of her murder was released without charge.

The charred remains of Jomaa Jerrare, 52, of Heath Town, Wolverhampton, were found by police just before 2.30am on Monday dumped by the roadside in Perton, Staffordshire.

Officers made the gruesome discovery after being alerted to reports of "suspicious activity" in the village which is on the outskirts of Wolverhampton.

A post mortem has taken place but Staffordshire Police say the cause of her death is under further investigation.

Detectives believe she was driven to the site before being set alight and say she was found with significant burn marks all over her body.

Specially-trained officers are now working with and supporting Jomaa's heartbroken family.

A 41-year-old man, from Wolverhampton, who was arrested on suspicion of murder has since been released without further action.

Detective Superintendent Tom Chisholm, of Staffordshire Police, is now reappealing for help from the public.

He said: "We've had a tremendous response from the public but, again, I must stress, this is the early stages of a major investigation and we are pursuing many lines of enquiry.

"'We need to understand Jomaa's movements prior to her death and want to hear from anyone who knew her or has seen her over the last few months.

"We are keen to understand where she has been frequenting and who she has been associating with.

"We believe that she was driven to the lay-by in Bridgnorth Road.

"Did you witness anything suspicious or see any vehicles in the area between 1am and 3am on Monday morning? Do you have local dash cam or CCTV footage?"

"It maybe you know someone was out at that time or their pattern of behaviour changed. Please get in touch with us if you can help or have information.

"This is a shocking and dreadful incident and our team of detectives is working tirelessly to establish what has happened and bring those responsible to justice."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said paramedics and a trauma doctor were sent to the scene bit it soon became apparent nothing could be done to save the victim.

A service spokesman said: "We were called to an incident at the junction of Jenny Walkers Lane and Bridgnorth Road at 2.49am on Monday.

"One ambulance, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, who sadly could not be saved and they were confirmed dead at the scene."

Anyone with further information is asked to contact police online, on social media or by calling 101 quoting incident number 42 of the August 9.

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
