A woman is in a critical condition in hospital following a single-vehicle crash in the Hunter, north of Newcastle, this week.
Emergency service crews were called to The Bucketts Way at Limeburners Creek, approximately 20km north-east of Karuah, about 5.30pm on Tuesday.
Police said investigators understood a Hyundai ix35 was travelling west when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled several times before crashing through a fence and hitting a tree.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle - a 51-year-old woman - was trapped in the Hyundai for a short period of time before passing motorists stopped to render assistance.
The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also called to the scene and the chopper's critical care medical team treated the 51-year-old before she was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
As police conduct inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash, officers are asking any witnesses to come forward.
Information or dash cam footage that could help with the investigation can be passed on to Port Stephens-Hunter police by calling one of the police district's stations.
