Woman, 51, dies and two others in critical condition after crash in Pontllanfraith

Police have appealed for information after a fatal crash in Pontllanfraith on Saturday night.

Officers from Gwent Police issued the appeal after the incident involving a Vauxhall Astra and a Ford Fiesta at around 7pm last Saturday, May 8 on the A4048 by Sainsbury's.

Three women who were in the Fiesta were all taken to hospital. One of them, a 51-year-old woman, has since died and the other two women, aged 53 and 29, remain in hospital in a critical condition.

"We’re appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Pontllanfraith on Saturday," a Gwent Police statement said.

"It happened at about 7pm on the A4048 by Sainsbury's. Two cars, a Vauxhall Astra and a Ford Fiesta, were involved.

"The three women who were in the Fiesta were all taken to hospital.

"One of them, a 51-year-old woman, has since died and the other two women, aged 53 and 29, remain in hospital in a critical condition."

They added: "The 20-year-old man, who was in the Astra, also remains in hospital in a stable condition."
