Woman, 50s, dies after early morning house fire in Roscommon

A woman in her 50s has died after a house fire in Roscommon.

The heartbreaking incident happened at a home in Athleague shortly after 7am on Thursday morning.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are at the scene of a fatal house fire which occurred at Athleague Co Roscommon this Thursday morning, June 17, 2021.

"A woman in her late 50s was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the sole occupant of the house at the time.

"Gardaí were alerted to the fire shortly after 7am this Thursday morning June 17, 2021.

"Investigations are ongoing."
