Woman, 50, stabbed to death in busy London street as man arrested for murder

A woman has been stabbed to death in a "busy" area of London, police have said.

Officers were called to reports of a stabbing in Pound Lane, Willesden, at around 4pm on Saturday.

A 50-year-old woman was discovered with stab wounds and died at the scene.

A 30-year-old man - believed to have known the victim - has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He has been taken into custody at a north London police station, the Metropolitan Police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford said: "This incident happened in a busy part of Willesden, and I'd also like to thank the members of the public who provided first aid and called the emergency services.

"A suspect was arrested within several hours of the incident and he remains in custody.

"Our priority is to establish the circumstances surrounding what happened.

"However, based on our inquiries so far, there is nothing to suggest any wider risk to the public."

Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis, responsible for local policing in Brent, added: “An incident of this nature is tragic and deeply concerning, and our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, friends and all those affected. Based on what we know at this stage, this is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no information to suggest any wider risk to the public.

“Residents will notice an increased police presence in the area in the coming days. Our officers are there to provide reassurance, engage with the community, and respond to any questions or concerns. I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist the investigation to speak to officers in the area or contact us directly. Even small pieces of information can be vital.”

Anyone with information can contact the investigation team by calling 101 quoting CAD 4731/31Jan.
