Woman, 48, hit by bus rushed to hospital as police cordon off station

Kirkby's bus station was cordoned off this morning after a woman was hit by a bus.

Emergency services were sent to the scene in Cherryfield Drive, close to the town's shopping centre, just after 11am.

Police confirmed the 48-year-old pedestrian was hit by a single decker bus and taken to hospital.

Paramedics attended and took the woman away for treatment.

The extent of her injuries are not yet known.

No-one else was injured and the bus driver stopped at the scene.

No buses were able to enter or leave the bus terminal while the scene was cordoned off for police to investigate the crash.

However Cherryfield Drive remained open to traffic.

It is not known which bus was involved in the incident, but most police activity was centred on a single decker 297 service operated by Hatton’s.

The cordon was lifted by around 1pm and the bus station began to return to normal.
