Woman, 46, arrested over ‘murder’ of man stabbed at his home in Bethnal Green

A woman aged 46 has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man known to her was stabbed to death at a home in east London.

The 47-year-old victim collapsed inside a property on Victoria Park Square, yards from Bethnal Green Police Station.

Emergency services were called to reports of him suffering knife wounds at 10.16am on Tuesday.

Police responded with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.

He was taken to hospital where he sadly later died at 11.52am.

Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with his fatal stabbing which happened close to Bethnal Green Tube station.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “Efforts are ongoing to identify the man’s next of kin.

“A special post-mortem examination is due to take place on Thursday, July 3.”

Initially, the suspect had been detained at the address on suspicion of attempted murder.

But she was taken into custody and then later rearrested for murder.

Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke, in charge of policing the local area, said: “My thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

“Our investigation is still in the early stages and detectives are working hard to establish the circumstances of what happened.

“At this time we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”

London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 10.14am on Tuesday, July 1 to reports of an incident in Victoria Park Square, Bethnal Green.

“We sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer to the scene.

“We treated a patient at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
