A woman has tragically died after a crash between a car and a truck in Westmeath.
The heartbreaking incident happened in Glascarn, Rathconrath, Mullingar, at around 1pm on Monday afternoon.
The woman, aged 45, died after the head-on collision.
She was the sole occupant of the car.
Her body was removed to the Mortuary in Midlands Regional Hospital, where a post mortem examination will take place.
The truck driver, a man in his 40s, wasn't injured in the fatal incident.
The road remains closed for Forensic Collision Investigators to carry out a technical examination.
A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
"Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time to make this footage available to Gardaí.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
