Woman, 43, dies after fire rips through family home as teen left with serious injuries

A 43-year-old woman has died and a 16-year-old girl is in hospital with serious injuries after a house fire in Dudley, police said.

Officers were called to the incident on Beacon Road, Sedgley, West Midlands, at around 3.45pm yesterday.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police are investigating the causes of the fire.

Detective Inspector Carla Thompson, said: “We are working closely with the fire service to determine what happened. I would urge anyone with information to get in touch.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the woman at this difficult time who are being supported by specialist officers."

A 49-year-old man was taken to hospital but was released a short while later after being checked over, West Midlands Police said.

A 16-year-old girl remains in hospital with serious injuries, the Force added.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “A woman has died following a house fire in Sedgley, Dudley yesterday.

“Officers were called to a house fire on Beacon Road by colleagues from West Midlands Fire Service at around 3.45pm.

“Despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 43-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene.

“A man and teenager were taken to hospital. The 49-year-old man was released a short while later after being checked over.

“A 16-year-old girl remains in hospital with serious injuries.

“The circumstances surrounding the fire are being investigated. This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved at this difficult time."

Within a matter of hours, the community rallied around to raise more than £3,700 for the family of the deceased, Birmingham Live reports.

Michelle Allen, the fundraiser of the GoFundMe campaign, said: "I was one of the people who were first on the scene of this horrific tragedy.

"I live local and I know a lot of the community had a lot of love for this family.

"This family now has no home, or anything to their name so let's try and raise as much as we can to help them in any way, this is what she would have wanted, she had the biggest heart and helped so many people who needed it."
