Widnes dog attack: Woman, 44, dies after being mauled at home in Cheshire

A 44-year-old woman has died after being attacked by two dogs at her home in Cheshire.

Emergency services were unable to save her after she was fatally injured at the house in Widnes, on the river Mersey, at around 5.15pm on Tuesday.

Officers rushed to the scene on Graham road, where they discovered the woman in a serious condition.

She was treated by paramedics but died shortly after.

Following the attack, officers tried repeatedly to capture the two dogs, which they belive were living at the address.

One of the animals was safely detained and is now being held in a secure kennel.

But Cheshire Police said their attempts to tranquillise the second animal proved unsuccessful.

"So, in the interests of public safety, the dog was destroyed," they said.

Detective Inspector Ian Whiley issued a statement saying: “We understand that people in the local community will be concerned when they hear about what has happened.

“But I would like to reassure residents that we are doing all that we can to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Police said the dogs were understood to be 'known to the woman' and living at the address (PA)

“However, at this stage, it is believed that the dogs were known to the woman and were living at the address.

“This has been an extremely distressing incident and our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this difficult time.”
