A major police investigation is underway after a woman was stabbed.
Police are currently searching an area of Tyldesley in Wigan for a woman said to have 'fled the scene' before emergency services arrived.
The victim, a 39-year-old woman, was taken to hospital for treatment, police confirmed.
There's been no comment from Greater Manchester Police as to her condition.
Police were called to Elliott Street in Tyldesley at 4.10pm on Wednesday.
It followed reports that a woman had been stabbed.
Images from the scene showed ambulances nearby and the air ambulance landed close to the scene.
It's not known whether the air ambulance took the woman to hospital or a normal ambulance.
No arrests have been made as yet, GMP said.
School Street has been cordoned off.
In a statement, GMP said: "Shortly after 4.10pm today, Wednesday, police were called to reports that a woman had been stabbed on Elliott Street in Tyldesley.
"Officers are in attendance and a 39-year-old woman has been taken to hospital for treatment.
"Police are actively searching the area for a woman who fled the scene prior to police arrival.
"No arrests have currently been made.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
The woman police are searching for hasn't been described.
The area involved surrounds St George's Church.
The force, however, did issue an appeal for witnesses.
