Woman, 39, dies after being hit by pick-up truck near Cardiff park

A female pedestrian has died following a collision in Cardiff.

Police were alerted to the scene near Victoria Park at around 2.15pm on Friday, November 26.

A 39-year-old woman sustained "serious injuries" after a collision involving a VW Amarok pick-up truck near the roundabout at the junction of Thompson Avenue and Windway Avenue.

The woman, from the Canton area, was taken to University Hospital of Wales where she later died.

South Wales Police said a 45-year-old man from the Canton area was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive while under the influence of drugs. The man has been released under investigation.

Officers are now appealing to find witnesses of the incident, any dashcam footage of the collision, or anyone who witnessed the driving of the VW Amarok pick-up prior to the collision.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "We are investigating a road traffic collision which happened at the roundabout at the junction of Thompson Avenue and Windway Avenue, Victoria Park, Cardiff at around 2.15pm on Friday November 26.

"The collision involved a VW Amarok pick-up truck and a female pedestrian who sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.

"The 39-year-old woman, from the Canton area, has subsequently died at the University Hospital of Wales.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, witnessed the driving of the VW Amarok pick-up prior to the collision, or who may have dashcam footage of the collision.

"A 45-year-old man from the Canton area was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive while under the influence of drugs. He has been released under investigation.
