Woman, 31, dies after being knocked off her bike by car

A cyclist who suffered serious injuries after she was knocked off her bike in Sefton Village has died.

Jennie Dowd, 31, was rushed to hospital on the morning of September 27 after a road traffic collision near the landmark Punchbowl pub on Lunt Road in Sefton Village.

Police said she suffered serious injures and later described her condition as critical

It is believed the cyclist was knocked off her bike by a car.

Today police named Jennie and confirmed she had died in hospital. She lived in the Crosby area.

Her family is being supported by officers as the investigation into the incident continues.

A 23-year-old Sefton woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic accident. She was later released under investigation.

Today police renewed their appeal for information about the incident which happened at around 8.45am on a Sunday morning.

A spokesperson said: "Anyone yet to come forward who saw this incident, lives locally and has CCTV or dashcam, is asked to contact us via our Roads Policing Unit on (0151) 7775747, or you can pass information via our social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police CC with reference 20000585062."
