A woman, aged 30s, has died following a serious road collision in Raheny.
The woman was fatally injured after being struck by a van after it mounted the path along James Larkin Road at 7 pm.
She was pronounced dead shortly after and her body has been removed to Connolly Hospital where a post mortem will take place.
The man who was driving the van was uninjured.
A number of emergency vehicles were at the scene of the incident.
It is understood that there are no other injuries.
A witness said: "There was the helicopter, quite a large one, patrolling around and looking thoroughly, around three fire trucks, a couple of life boats (maybe like three?), a local who had a boat helped in the search, seven road policing and gardaí cars and police lines at most entrances to the cycle lane.
“I saw around 30-35 gardai, firefighters, members of the coastguard etc . All patrolling up and down the cycle lane with flashlights and trying to keep the public out . The van was also visible and gardaí were surrounding it.”
A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí were called to the scene of a serious road traffic collision in Raheny, Dublin 5. The collision involving a pedestrian and a van occurred shortly after 7pm Wednesday 4th March 2020 on the James Larkin road, Raheny, Dublin 5.
"It's believed the pedestrian, a female in her 30s was struck by a van after it mounted the path and travelled a short distance along the James Larkin road.
"The female was fatally injured in the collision and pronounced dead shortly after. Her body has been removed from the scene and taken to the mortuary at Connolly Hospital where a post-mortem will take place.
"The male driver of the van was uninjured and no other persons are believed to have been injured in the incident.
"The scene at the crash site is currently preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the cycle pathway on this road remains closed.
"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and road users with camera footage, who were travelling on this road between 6.45pm and 7.30pm, to contact Raheny Garda Station on 01 6664300 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
