A woman has created her dream home after transforming her council flat over lockdown for under £5,000.
Emma Campbell, 30, has been living in her council flat since she was just 17-years-old.
In that time, she was able to buy the flat for herself and has given it a dream makeover.
She decided to transform her flat while in lockdown, and was able to achieve everything she wanted on a small budget.
The digital marketing trainer said: "It was awful when I first moved in.
"Whoever lived here before had really odd taste.
"In the kitchen, they had these hand-painted footprints going along the wall.

"It wasn't nice at all."
She had been able to do some minor decorating when she first moved in, but it was when lockdown hit that she make the decision to give her flat a complete makeover.
"Most of the furniture is thrifted, or just freebies I found on the side of the road, and lots of up-cycling," Emma explains.

"I saved a lot of money in the bedroom and the living room because I had a go at plastering it myself.
"I got a lot of stuff, like the dining table, off Facebook Marketplace."
She had initially asked a friend to install the bathroom, but it did not go quite to plan.
"He kind of left the job unfinished, so I had to try and do a lot of it myself.

"I also tiled and painted the kitchen myself.
"I spend quite a lot of time in the kitchen so I wanted it to look really nice."
Emma says that her friends could not believe the transformation, who have seen first hand the state of the flat initially.
"I was quite embarrassed by it at first," she said.
"I was sleeping on a futon, and my TV was just on a chair, it looked like something out of trainspotting.

"Now, they can't believe it's the same place."
"During lockdown just having to stay in the same space, and kind of hating it, is what gave me the motivation to make some changes.
"Working from home, at first I was just spending all my time in my bedroom.
She added: "Then, for my birthday my mum asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I just said 'help'.
"So she came down and helped to motivate me, and help me move furniture around, and everything."

She spent a total of £4,770 on the makeover, the most expensive being £3,000 for a new kitchen.
She had some new wooden floors put in for £600, and bought a sofa for £500.
Her wallpaper was free as she collected samples from local shops, and her bath unit and sink cost a combined £60.
The dining table and chairs came to £100, and she paid £500 in labour costs.
She gave the walls a splash of colour for £10.

Emma shared the results on Facebook, which blew up and received over 2,700 comments.
She said: "I can't believe the response it's got.
"I knew I didn't want to live in a dark space, I wanted it really colourful and with lots of plants.
"When you're on a budget you just sort of make do with things, but this is definitely what I wanted."
