Woman, 30, survives near one-mile drop in skydiving horror fall in Canada after parachute fails to open

A woman miraculously survived after falling nearly one mile to the ground in a skydiving incident in Canada, according to reports.

The 30-year-old, who has not been named, suffered a broken back in the 1.5km fall on Saturday but police have said she is expected to survive.

A witness of the incident, near Trois-Rivières, Quebec, told CBC he saw the woman "falling faster than anyone else".

"It's a miracle," Denis Demers said on Wednesday.

"I don't know how a person can survive a fall from an aeroplane like that."

He said the woman's parachute did not open, however details of how that happened are unclear.

She then fell into a wooded area, according to CBC.

The woman is recovering in hospital with several fractures including broken vertebrae, according to 7news.

Investigations into the incident are underway.
