Woman, 30, killed after confronting strangers who 'made jibe about her weight'

A woman was shot dead after confronting a couple for calling her fat in a row at a food stand.

Amanda Nunes overheard the pair calling her overweight when she grabbed breakfast at a food stand in the city of Belford Roxo in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, reports say.

During the argument the man allegedly slapped the 30-year-old, before pulling out a gun and shooting her in the face at around 6.30am on August 31.

Ms Nunes, who was married according to her Instagram profile, was rushed to hospital and later transferred to another facility, where she died in the intensive care unit.

Her friends and relatives have shared their heartbreak over her death on Facebook.

One of her pals added: "I'm devastated, I hope justice is done, how can (a) human be so cruel to another human being like that, I can't understand it, but I have to accept God's will, and I hope he will help me overcome."

Another described the killing as 'cowardly' and encouraged witnesses to contact the police to prevent further murders from taking place.

Activists were filmed walking through the streets wearing t-shirts with Ms Nunes' face on them, demanding justice for the 30-year-old.
