PILIBHIT: A 28-year-old woman who was burnt for a dowry of Rs 2 lakh by her husband and his five family members after pouring kerosene, at her husband's house, succumbed to her injuries at the district hospital in Pilibhit on Wednesday night. The police have sent the dead body for autopsy. The incident took place on April 13 in Pilibhit city.
Rajini was married to one Pratap Singh (30) of Than Singh locality in Pilibhit city in February 2018 and was subjected to cruelty over dowry.
A written complaint was filed by the deceased's mother, Savitri Devi, a resident of Bisalpur city of the district. Notably, the woman had sustained 80% burns and her dying declaration had been recorded by a designated magistrate soon after the police had lodged the FIR, the Sungarhi police station SHO Jagat Singh.
The police will now include IPC Section 304 B (1) (death of a woman caused by any burns or bodily injury or than under normal circumstances within seven years of her marriage) to the FIR as soon as the police receive the autopsy report, SHO said.
The police had earlier lodged an FIR on April 18 against Pratap Singh and his five family members under IPC sections 307 (attempt to kill), 498 A (subjecting a woman to cruelty by husband or his relatives), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all) and the appropriate sections of dowry prohibition act, 1961.
The woman's husband was arrested to be lodged in jail on April 20 while the remaining five accused are yet to be nabbed.
