Woman, 26, arrested for drink-driving and dangerous driving after man struck down by car

A 26-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and dangerous driving after a man was hit by a car in Stockport.

The man, in his 50s, was knocked down by the car on Lower Bents Lane in Bredbury just before 7.25pm last night (Wednesday). Emergency services including police officers and paramedics rushed to the scene.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said. The driver of the car - a 26-year-old female - was then arrested.

She was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She has since been released under investigation, police said.

After the crash last night, Lower Bents Lane was shut off between Stockport Road and Marina Road. Pictures showed several police vehicles at the scene.

A GMP spokesperson said: "We were called to a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Lower Bents Lane in Bredbury just before 7.25pm on Wednesday, September 28.

"A man ages in his 50s was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A woman, aged 26, was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

"She has been released under investigation."
