Woman, 25, dies after pier tragedy as Scots cops arrest man

A 25-year-old woman has died after a tragic incident at Helensburgh Pier last night.

Emergency services raced to Colquhoun Street around 5.15pm to reports of a person in the water.

A short time later the body of a 25-year-old woman was recovered by the RNLI.

Her family have been made aware.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident - a police spokesman confirmed that at this stage this is in connection with an assault and not the woman's death.

Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death.

A huge emergency response could be seen in the area last night as police, ambulance and fire crews all attended.

Forensic officers were spotted combing the scene after the incident.

Detective Superintendent Craig Willison said: "Around 5.15pm on Friday, 23 April, 2021, police were called to Helensburgh Pier on Colquhoun Street, Helensburgh, where it was reported a 25-year-old woman was in the water.

"A short time later, her body was recovered by the RNLI. Her family have been made aware and are being supported by officers.

"A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this investigation and enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
