Woman, 25, dies after being 'mauled to death by family dog'

A 25-year-old woman has died after it was believed she was mauled to death by her family's pet dog.

The incident happened at an address in Kitts Green in Birmingham on Friday afternoon, Birmingham Live report.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after a relative dialled 999 at about 2pm.

They found the woman dead at the scene. She had suffered serious injuries.

No-one else was in the property at the time.

The dog, said by West Midlands Police to be a Staffordshire cross, is due to be humanely be put to sleep.

West Midlands Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and the death was being treated as a "tragic incident".

The death has been handed over to Birmingham's coroner for a full investigation.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to Sunbeam Way, Shard End, just after 2pm on Friday by a relative.

"Sadly, a woman aged 25 was found dead at the scene after suffering serious injuries believed to have been caused by a family dog which also lived at the address.

"No one else was in the property at the time, and the woman’s family has signed the dog, believed to be a Staffordshire cross, over to police. It will be humanely put to sleep.

"The death is being treated as a tragic incident, but with no suspicious circumstances.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner in due course."
