Woman, 24, in hospital after car crashes into shop at Weston

A woman has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after a car ploughed into a shop where she was working at Weston on Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the Station Street business just after 11am after reports a vehicle had crashed into a shopfront.

Paramedics treated a 24-year-old woman for a head injury and she was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver was taken to Cessnock Hospital for mandatory testing and was not injured in the crash.

"When responding to a job like this there are so many situations we need be ready for," NSW Ambulance Inspector Mark Gardiner said.

"Whilst we aim to get to our patients as quickly as we can, we do need to ensure that the scene is safe for our paramedics.

"Paramedics worked with other emergency services to secure the site before treating our patient and transporting her to hospital."
