Woman, 22, trapped in child's body says her mum is judged for letting her wear make-up

A 22-year-old woman who has a rare condition which makes her look like a child says her mother is judged by people for letting her wear make-up.

Shauna Rae was diagnosed with brain cancer when she was a baby and the treatment left her pituitary gland damaged which in turn, affected her growth.

Despite being in her twenties Shauna says people assume she is around eight-years-old because she is just 3ft 10in.

Shauna has told how her mother, Patty Schrankel, is often criticised for her parenting as people wrongly assume her daughter is too young to be in cosmetics and the clothing she wears reports The Mirror.

Shauna is starring in a TLC documentary called I Am Shauna Rae, is filmed saying: "If you were to look at me, you would think I'm just a normal little girl, doing normal little girl things with my fun, crazy family.

"But the truth is I'm not a little girl. I'm a woman, a 22-year-old woman stuck in the body of an eight-year-old."

The channel also shared a clip from the show on TikTok, @tlctv, which includes an interview with Shauna and her mum.

Patty said: "Shauna likes to dress up, like any other 22-year-old, but we go out together and she gets looks like 'oh wow, what is she doing? What is that kid doing?'

"Then I get the looks of 'how could you? How could you let your child dress like this?"

Shauna says the horrible comments and stared get to her, even when they are not always directed at her.

She said: "My mum has to explain that I'm old enough to make my own decisions, but they don't believe her - they call her a liar. So that's not fun.

"I feel horrible for my mum because I don't deal with all the backlash, they don't think it's appropriate to come up to a child and say these things - they think it's appropriate to come up to the mother which isn't appropriate at all, in my opinion.

"And I know it affects her."

After the clip was shared on TikTok, social media users praised Shauna for her bravery.

One said: "This lady's situation is heartbreaking. She's a 22-year-old woman wanting all the things a 22-year-old wants and needs to do."

Then another wrote: "She is very mature. Talk to her and it's quite obvious she is not a child."

And a third commented: "Can we talk about how beautiful that girl is? Look at her eyes!"
