Woman, 22, returns to bridge she jumped off with notes to prove 'it does get better'

A 22-year-old woman revisited the motorway bridge she jumped from to post notes of encouragement for others who may face the difficulties she went through.

Sasha Welsh said she had been building up to this day for months and finally went back to the road yesterday, Sunday, April 25.

Sasha, from Birkenhead, who jumped from a motorway bridge last year, she said: "I always knew I was going to go back to the bridge, but I have really been building towards this day.

"It was very scary going back, but it also felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.

"It was as if this has now brought closure to that part of my life."

Sasha pinned handwritten notes onto the bridge with a number of supportive and inspiring quotes, such as "you are enough", "the tough days will pass" and "you're important".

She said: "I included lots of contact information for people to find support and help.

"If my notes help just one person, then they have worked."

After posting the pictures online, hundreds flooded the comments to offer messages of support and congratulate Sasha on her "amazing" achievement.

One said: "What an amazing thing to do, I really hope you get all the help and support you need."

Another said: "You are an inspiration to all those out there, honey."

And a third added: "This is just one of the reasons why YOUR life is important because now you are helping others who are finding themselves in your situation. Pretty amazing stuff!"

Now Sasha is waiting to start college in September to train as a mental health nurse and offered advice for anyone struggling with their mental health.

She said: "It does get better, it can take time, but it does get better and I am living proof of that.

"I want to fight for every single day.

"If you are feeling unwell, talk to someone, tell them. And if you can't talk to your friends or family, call and talk to a helpline.

"You are loved and your family and friends will always love you."
