Woman, 21, gives birth then sits school exams just 30 MINUTES later

A 21-year-old woman gave birth to a boy then sat her school exams just 30 minutes later.

Nothing was going to stop Almaz Derese from graduating - not even going through labour.

Shortly after she welcomed her bundle of joy, she took her English, Amharic and maths secondary school exams in hospital.

Armed police transported the papers and a guard watched on as Almaz completed them.

She will sit her remaining tests at the exam centre over the next two days.

"Because I was rushing to sit the exam, my labour wasn't difficult at all," she told BBC Afaan Oromoo.

Almaz, who is from Metu in western Ethiopia, had hoped to sit the tests before her baby was born.

However, the secondary school exams were postponed because of Ramadan.

She went into labour on Monday before the first exam was about to start, reports the BBC.

Her husband, Tadese Tulu, persuaded the school to allow her to take the exams at the hospital.

In Ethiopia, a lot of girls drop out of secondary school and return later on to complete their studies.

Almaz now wants to take a two-year course that will prepare her for university.

She is pleased with how the exams went and her baby son is doing well.
