A woman in her mid-20s has tragically died in a car crash in Co Laois.
The woman was fatally injured when the car she was driving collided with another car on the Lea Road in Portarlington at around 8.20am this morning.
Her body has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary in Midlands Regional Hospital where a post mortem is expected to take place tomorrow.
A family who were in the second car, including two young children, all received injuries, which are believed to be non life threatening.
The mother and one of the children were taken to Tallaght University Hospital, while the father and a second child were brought to the Midlands Regional Hospital.
A garda spokeswoman said: "The scene is being examined by Garda Forensic Examiners and the road is currently closed with local diversions in place.
"Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision, and who may have dash cam footage, to contact Gardaí in Portlaoise on 057 - 7864100, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
