Teen, 18, knocked unconscious by thugs 'because she had short hair'

Sickening footage shows an 18-year-old girl being knocked out by a group of thugs - because of her short hair.

The homophobic attack in St Petersburg, Russia, saw the victim and her friends described as "lesbians".

In the footage, a group of young women, mostly with short hair, is seen entering a cafe immediately followed by a group of young men.

The young men then run to the cafe entrance where they are confronted by one of the girls with short hair, identified as 18-year-old Ekaterina Lysykh.

After a short exchange, one of the men punches Lysykh who falls to the floor and remains motionless while her friends run over to help.

According to Lysykh's friend Alina, the group was walking on the street when the men came over and asked if they were lesbians.

Alina said: "They insulted us in a rude manner, asking: 'Are you lesbians, why do you have such a short haircut?' They also wanted us to show them what we had in our pockets.

"After we refused they hit us."

The women tried to run away, but the alleged thugs kept tripping them up so they decided to go into a nearby cafe.

According to local media, the victim was punched while she was trying to get pepper spray out of her bag.

Reports said that she was hospitalised with concussion and was released the following day.
However, she began to feel bad again and vomited so she was hospitalised a second time.

There have been no further updates on her current condition.

Reports said that she has troubling recollecting the incident, but has filed a complaint with the police.

The investigation is ongoing, and no one has been arrested.
