A recent graduate of Wauconda High School was killed in a rollover crash Wednesday in northwest suburban Volo.
Authorities responded about 7:15 a.m. to Route 12 north of Case Road for reports of a crash with injuries, the Lake County sheriff’s office said.
According to preliminary information, an 18-year-old woman was driving a 2000 GMC pickup truck carrying a sealcoating tank north on Route 12, the sheriff’s office said. She drove off the east side of the road for unknown reasons and “overcorrected”, causing the vehicle to roll.
The driver wasn’t wearing her seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
Her passenger, an 18-year-old woman, was wearing her seatbelt and was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
Both were working for the summer for the Wauconda School District at the time of the crash, and recently graduated from Wauconda High School, the sheriff’s office said.
The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
