Liverpool became the latest victim of Wolves’ surprise bounce as the Premier League bottom club snatched victory in stoppage time thanks to a wicked deflection.
There was next to nothing to speak of after an incredibly drab first half, but that all changed when Wolves took a shock lead with 12 minutes of normal time to play. Rodrigo Gomes’ dinked finish put the hosts on course for another Molineux upset, having taken points off leaders Arsenal and Aston Villa in the past fortnight.
The Reds hit back just five minutes later through Mohamed Salah, ending his longest ever Liverpool goal drought that started on 1 November when it seemingly mattered most.
However, it would be in vain as Andre’s 94th-minute strike deflected off Joe Gomez and past a helpless Alisson, sending manager Rob Edwards running down the touchline as Wolves sealed back-to-back league wins for the first time since April 2025.

The first time was so nice...
00:00 , Will CastleLiverpool will have to return to Wolverhampton sooner than they perhaps would’ve liked after tonight’s last-gasp defeat.
They face Wolves at Molineux in the FA Cup fifth round in just three days time. It’s a Friday night game, again under the lights - an identical meeting.
“We've made Liverpool angry, so we know how difficult it will be on Friday,” Rob Edwards said.
Will Arne Slot’s side wreak some revenge? We’ll find out in 72 hours - but for now, Wolves will savour this win!

Arne Slot laments another late goal conceded
Tuesday 3 March 2026 23:45 , Will Castle"We are losing far too many football games and dropping points,” Slot told TNT Sports.
“Was it again in extra-time that we conceded? The three times we lost in the last 22 games were all three in extra time.”

Rob Edwards: 'I've lost myself in the moment there'
Tuesday 3 March 2026 23:30 , Will Castle"You've got to enjoy the moment,” Edwards told TNT Sports. “They're a brilliant football club with an amazing manager and loads of great players. It was just a big, big night for us.
"I know I've lost myself in that moment there. I'm enjoying it and people might be thinking ‘well you bottom of the league’ but you saw the energy around the place and you have to enjoy that and we're trying to trying to turn things around.”

Virgil van Dijk: Defeat is 'down to ourselves'
Tuesday 3 March 2026 23:15 , Will Castle"I think it's down to ourselves,” Van Dijk told TNT Sports.
“It was slow, we were predictable, sloppy in possession and wrong decision-making. We didn't concede chances but if you perform like that then a result like this can be a result of that and that's a fact. It was disappointing.”
Arne Slot bemoans winner 'that wasn't even a chance'
Tuesday 3 March 2026 23:04 , Will Castle“A bad result,” Slot told TNT Sports.
“We were getting closer and closer to scoring a goal, but then conceded probably the first moment they arrived in our box. We were then close to the winner with Mo Salah on the counter-attack and Virgil’s header.
“But in the end it’s because of a deflected shot that wasn’t even a chance.”
Wolves sabotage mission continues but Liverpool’s woes go beyond one cruel moment
Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:45 , Richard Jolly at MolineuxFor the second time in four days, Rob Edwards set off down the touchline in manic celebration. Wolves, as their fans had chorused, are bound for the Championship, but on the way they are bloodying the noses of those with ambitions of Champions League qualification. First Aston Villa and now Liverpool have fallen at Molineux.
A night when the champions could have gone third instead ended with the greater possibility this season will end in failure. There was a familiarity to the finale. Liverpool have only lost three times in 22 games but all three have come with a goal in added time, whether to Bournemouth, Manchester City or now Wolves. Liverpool could call it cruel, when the decider needed a deflection, when they had hit the woodwork twice, but another late show calls into question their game management.

FULL-TIME! Wolves 2-1 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:20 , Will CastleLiverpool have become the latest victim of Wolves’ surprise bounce as the Premier League bottom club snatched victory in stoppage time thanks to a wicked deflection.

Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:10 , Will Castle90+6 mins: Chiesa lets fly from the edge of the box but it’s straight at Sa.
We’re past the six allotted minutes - and up the other end, Wolves have won a foul. That might just do it.
Wolves 2-1 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:09 , Will Castle90+5 mins: Rob Edwards sprinted down the touchline when that hit the back of the net. A full Mourinho, without the knee slide.

Andre’s shot takes a huge deflection off Gomez and beats Alisson, who is helpless to it!
Molineux is the new home of the upset!
Wolves 1-1 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:05 , Will Castle90+3 mins: CHANCE! Van Dijk has to score!
It’s a perfect dinked delivery onto the big Dutchman’s head at the back post, but he can only head it straight at Sa.
Wolves 1-1 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:04 , Will Castle90+1 mins: SIX minutes in added time to find a winner.
Wolves 1-1 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:03 , Will Castle88 mins: Liverpool try and break through Ekitike, who brilliantly turns Bueno with a perfect touch - but unsurprisingly, the Spaniard take a handful of his shirt to commit a tactical foul.
The Frenchman understandably reacts with anger, sparking a brawl between the players. Andre is really giving it the biggun there.
Wolves 1-1 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:00 , Will Castle85 mins: We have got some game on now!
Liverpool get another big chance to score just after equalising, with Salah leading a breakaway with numbers.
But just as he picks his pass, Bueno comes back to intervene with a crucial touch.
Then up the other end, Arokodare is slipped in - he goes for the dink like his teammate but Alisson stands tall to catch.
GOAL! Wolves 1-1 Liverpool (Salah, 83')
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:56 , Will CastleIt’s his first goal since 1 November, and it’s come at a MASSIVE time for Liverpool!
Bellegarde gives the ball away in a horror error, allowing Salah to drive into the box and poke into the bottom corner.
The Reds are level!
Wolves 1-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:54 , Will Castle80 mins: OFF THE POST! So nearly the immediate response Liverpool needed!
Ngumoha curls one through the defender’s legs but Sa produces a stunning save to tip the teenager’s effort onto the post.
GOAL! Wolves 1-0 Liverpool (R Gomes, 78')
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:51 , Will CastleWill it be another HUGE upset at Molineux?!
It’s a smash and grab from the Premier League’s bottom club, with Arokodare taking Van Dijk out of the equation before slipping in Rodrigo Gomes, who produces a wonderful dinked finish to score.
First Arsenal, then Aston Villa - now Liverpool! They don’t look relegation-doomed!
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:49 , Will Castle75 mins: Liverpool’s corner routine nearly backfires badly as the ball out to the edge of the box lacks the power to give Szoboszlai a shooting opportunity, allowing Wolves to intervene and break.
It’s the Hungarian, however, who turns and sprints back to recover Liverpool possession on the halfway line.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:44 , Will Castle70 mins: Got a lot of Gomez/Gomes updates to give you.
Joao Gomes hacks down Salah, and sees yellow for his troubles.
Then up comes the fourth official’s board. Wolves replace Mateus Mane with Rodrigo Gomes.
But wait, there’s more! Jeremie Frimpong first start back from injury comes to an end as he’s replaced by Joe Gomez.
Luckily, Angel Gomes is no longer on the pitch. So just the three to contend with.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:42 , Will Castle67 mins: Shooting opportunity for Salah goes begging as he curls first time well over the bar.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:38 , Will Castle65 mins: This is a change Liverpool fans will want to see.
Electric teenager Ngumoha has entered the fray in place of Gakpo, while Robertson has come on for Kerkez.
“This has felt a game that is crying out for Rio Ngumoha,” says our man on the ground Richard Jolly.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:37 , Will Castle64 mins: Suddenly, this game has really opened up.
Wolves have their best spell of the second half as they tick it around Liverpool’s box trying to force the issue - but as they lose possession, the Reds break away.
The ball ends up with Ekitike on the right, who does his man with the stepover before drilling in a low cross, but it’s brilliant defending by Krejci who both intercepts the ball and avoids conceding an own goal as it rolls into the arms of Sa.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:33 , Will Castle60 mins: Triple change from Wolves as they bring on Arokodare, Mosquera and Bellegarde for Armstrong, Doherty and Angel Gomes.
Those aren’t alterations that indicate Wolves are intent with simply seeing out a goalless draw.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:29 , Will Castle54 mins: Lovely feet from Salah to pick the ball up and dance into the box, but a Wolves leg prevents the Egyptian from getting a shot away,
Liverpool dominating possession at the moment.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:25 , Will Castle51 mins: CHANCE! How did that no go in?!
Liverpool’s corner is flicked towards the back-post where Jones resides.
It seems like a simple header into an open net from a yard out for the Englishman, but it loops up off his chest onto the crossbar and BEHIND Kerkez, who thought he was going to have an easy tap-in on the rebound.
It defies all logic that Liverpool did not score there.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:23 , Will Castle50 mins: Vocal penalty appeals from Liverpool’s players and fans as Krejci seems to block Frimpong’s cross with his forearm.
There’s a brief VAR check but the referee waves it away.
BACK UNDERWAY! Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:18 , Will CastleHere’s hoping for a better 45 minutes than the one we just saw.
Here come the teams
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:18 , Will CastleOne change for Liverpool as the teams return - Curtis Jones comes on for Ryan Gravenberch, who may have been one foul away from a red card.
Fans unite in hair-raising tribute to Diogo Jota
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:12 , Will CastleOn what has been an otherwise quiet night at Molineux so far, the noise inside the ground between the 18th and 20th minute was nothing short of hair-raising as both sets of fans paid tribute to their former player Diogo Jota.

Bottom club Wolves frustrating Liverpool in action-starved clash
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:09 , Will Castle

ICYMI: Dominik Szoboszlai has a new haircut
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:07 , Will CastleI know this was mentioned in a couple posts during the build-up, but literally nothing interesting has happened in the last 45 minutes.
So we go to the somewhat eye-raising development of pre-match: Dominik Szoboszlai has cornrows.

'Not as bad as we've seen Liverpool... but a forgettable half'
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:04 , Richard Jolly at MolineuxHere’s Richard Jolly inside Molineux:
“A forgettable first half. Not as bad as Liverpool's opening 45 minutes at Nottingham Forest in their last away game, but they have not looked like scoring. And the good news is they are back here again in three days' time.”

HALF-TIME! Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:03 , Will CastleThere goes the referee’s whistle, putting us out of our misery.
The only thing to tell you is that the game is goalless. Nothing else to note.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:01 , Will Castle45+1 mins: Two minutes added on. We won’t lie, this has been a tough watch.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:59 , Will Castle43 mins: Gakpo does his trademark ‘cut in and shoot’ routine but can’t get his effort to goal, with a Wolves body getting in the way to concede a corner.
The resulting delivery doesn’t beat the first man. Disappointing.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:57 , Will Castle41 mins: Liverpool see a free-kick opportunity go begging as the whipped delivery is flicked well wide.
Jose Sa then hoofs his goal-kick straight out for a throw. That went so wide from connecting with his boot, I’m almost convinced he meant that.
Sums up this first-half, really.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:52 , Will Castle36 mins: Szoboszlai has a crack from range and he catches it well, but it’s straight down the throat of Sa.
We know he can hit them so you can’t blame him for having a go.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:50 , Will Castle34 mins: With the game needing a bit of excitement, Tchatchoua - the Premier League’s fastest player this season - injects some pace on the right flank, darting into the box and threatening to leave Kerkez for dead.
A cross eventually goes into the box which is caught by Alisson, but that’s put a bit of life into the crowd.
'Wolves solid in centre of pitch'
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:48 , Richard Jolly at MolineuxHere’s Richard Jolly inside Molineux:
“Wolves have been really solid in the centre of the pitch, with their three centre-backs and four players who are central midfielders by trade. Liverpool need to outflank them and both wingers, who invert, aren't likely to do that. There are signs they are getting the full-backs further forward to try and do it.”

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:46 , Will Castle30 mins: What’s everyone had for tea tonight?
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:43 , Will Castle25 mins: Kerkez drills a low cross into a good area but nobody is there for Liverpool. Bueno controls and clears.
There hasn’t been a lot to shout about so far.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:38 , Will Castle22 mins: Gravenberch enters the book for a late lunging challenge on Joao Gomes.
Animated appeals from Slot - I’m not sure he has much to complain about.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:36 , Will Castle18 mins: All four sides of the ground on their feet applauding as the clock hits 18 minutes - a tribute to Diogo Jota, who played for both clubs.
Rob Edwards also joins in. A forever loved man in these parts, and on Merseyside.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:33 , Richard Jolly at MolineuxHere’s Richard Jolly inside Molineux:
“Hugo Ekitike has made a couple of fine runs after picking up the ball in deeper positions. One was a counter-attack but dropping off has a logic if if leaves Wolves' three centre-backs with no one to mark.”

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:31 , Will Castle15 mins: Wonderful run by Ekitike gets Liverpool out of their own half and to the opposition box.
He slips it to Frimpong to shoot but the Dutchman blazes his effort into Row Z.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:29 , Will Castle13 mins: That was a move of two passes.
Joao Gomes produces a delightful outside-the-foot through ball to set Tchatchoua away down the right, but the wing-back gets his cross all wrong as it sails out for a goal-kick.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:27 , Will Castle12 mins: TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher highlights the surprisingly tepid atmosphere inside Molineux, just as the away end gets into song.
The home fans haven’t found their voice yet, despite the joy they’ve witnessed here over the past couple of weeks.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:25 , Will Castle9 mins: First corner of the night goes Wolves’ way - and in a refreshing change of pace, it isn’t lumped on top of the goalkeeper with 20 players wrestling in the six-yard box.
Angel Gomes’ delivery is flicked on by Armstrong and falls to the feet of Mane, but he can’t get a shot away and Liverpool clear.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:23 , Will Castle6 mins: CHANCE! Salah controls a wonderful searching ball from Van Dijk seemingly to perfection in the box, but Krejci and Bueno come across to effectively screen the Egyptian and prevent him from getting a shot away at goal.
Salah holds his face but it’s no foul, per the referee.
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:20 , Will Castle4 mins: Joao Gomes having a bit of fun with Frimpong early on, turning the Dutchman inside out before going for a nutmeg.
Frimpong shuts his legs and concedes the throw.
'Clear obvious ploy from Wolves'
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:18 , Richard Jolly at MolineuxHere’s Richard Jolly inside Molineux:
“A clear obvious ploy from Wolves is to try and use the pace of Jackson Tchatchoua behind the Liverpool defence. The wing-back is one of the fastest players in the league.”
Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:17 , Will Castle1 min: Bright start from Wolves as Tchatchoua is sent running down the right, chasing a wonderful ball from the back.
He crosses aiming for his opposite number Wolfe, who miscontrols the ball and the chance goes.
KICK-OFF! Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:15 , Will CastleWe are UNDERWAY at Molineux!
Here come the teams
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:12 , Will CastleThe players are out under the Molineux lights... kick-off coming up!
'A double-header of different priorities'
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:12 , Richard Jolly at MolineuxHere’s Richard Jolly inside Molineux:
“The first of a double header, where the clubs may have different priorities. The Premier League game seems more important for Liverpool. Friday's FA Cup tie certainly is for Wolves. That said, they can have an impact on the battle for the third and fourth, for the second time in a few days. Wolves' win over Aston Villa gives Liverpool the chance to go ahead of Unai Emery's team.”
Inside Football: A corner turned for how the Premier League is played – and what it means
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:05 , Miguel DelaneyArsenal’s win over Chelsea confirmed that there have already been more set-piece goals this season than in the entirety of the last campaign. There are clear reasons for that rise, from tactical evolution to calendar congestion, as the game’s powerbrokers weigh up what it means – not just for “the product”, but for how this increasingly unpredictable season will ultimately be decided.
For all of the discussion around set-pieces, and what almost seems to be a moral debate about how football should be played, there have been moments when Arsenal have embraced the perception. The squad have come in after some wins singing a particular fan chant: “Set piece again, ole ole.”
That wasn’t quite the case after the 2-1 win over Chelsea, which keeps them top of the table by five points, albeit with a game more played than Manchester City. Instead, there was a sense of resolve.

A corner turned for how the Premier League is played – and what it means
Wolves vs Liverpool: Head-to-head
Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:00 , Will CastleWolves have a knack for giving Liverpool a pretty difficult outing whenever the two sides meet. Case in point, their trip to Anfield earlier this season - where Liverpool emerged slender 2-1 winners.
But that game in December also points to how this meeting usually goes. Even when Wolves give the Reds a run for their money, it’s the 20-time Premier League winners that usually emerge with all three points.
In fact, Wolves have avoided defeat just once in the league against Liverpool since being promoted back into the top flight in 2018.
That was a 3-0 thumping of Jurgen Klopp’s side in the 2022/23 season, when the Reds were seriously struggling.
Of course, struggles have been there for all to see for Liverpool this term, but Arne Slot will be happy his team seem to have come out of the storm that was their worst run in 70-odd years. They have won four games on the trot since losing to Man City at the beginning of February and will be a tough team to beat tonight.
Can Wolves make Liverpool’s side-in-transition regress into crisis mode?

Mohamed Salah backed to break longest goal drought of Liverpool career
Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:50 , Will CastleArne Slot has insisted Mohamed Salah will soon start scoring again as he insisted he is not concerned by the longest Premier League goal drought of the Egyptian’s Liverpool career.
Salah has not struck in his last 10 top-flight appearances, with his most recent goal in the division coming on 1 November against Aston Villa.
Slot said ahead of the another goalless outing at West Ham that he is not worried by Salah’s form, explaining: “We are used to Mo scoring a lot of goals and at this moment in time that is maybe the biggest difference in his performance and game time. But we also know this has happened before.
“I don’t know if it happened nine games in a row but I've had these questions earlier if didn’t score for three or five but I know in the end he always starts scoring again.
“He set his own standards and those are so, so, so high and the moment he doesn’t score for a few games people are immediately surprised - that is the biggest compliment he can get. With data you can use it to your advantage or disadvantage but not to use the FA Cup game - if we play a Premier League side – you could argue if that is fair.
“But that's the way it works: if we want to highlight something really positive we try to forget one or two games and if we want to highlight something negative we can try to forget one or two games as well. Three games ago he had an assist and a goal against a very good Premier League team, Brighton, so that is the reality and then you can change data and say he did not score in nine Premier League games.”

Liverpool and the curse of the seven right-backs
Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:40 , Richard JollyTrent Alexander-Arnold had always looked irreplaceable. The remarkable passing range and pinpoint crossing that made him unique meant no successor would ever be a duplicate. But if Jeremie Frimpong has proved Anfield’s answer to the Real Madrid Alexander-Arnold, it has been in an unwanted respect. Frimpong’s injury-interrupted time at Liverpool mirrors Alexander-Arnold’s stop-start beginning to life at the Bernabeu.
The Netherlands international returned against West Ham on Saturday. A man who barely missed a game for Bayer Leverkusen has had three hamstring injuries in England. Proof the physicality of the league can be tough to adjust to, Arne Slot has often said.
And for the first time in a month, Liverpool will be able to call upon a right-back who actually is a right-back; apart, anyway, from Calvin Ramsay, granted one start in the Carabao Cup, one minute in the FA Cup and neither in the Premier League.

Can Liverpool avoid becoming latest victim of Wolves' bounce?
Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:36 , Will Castle

Rio Ngumoha’s time is now - but is Cody Gakpo as much of a problem as Liverpool fans make out?
Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:20 , Will CastleThere was one deafening narrative that prevailed from Liverpool’s scrappy late win at Nottingham Forest nine days ago: start Rio Ngumoha, please and thank you.
“Ngumoha did more in 15 minutes than (Mohamed) Salah and (Cody) Gakpo did in the entire game before that,” Jamie Carragher asserted after full-time at the City Ground. The electrifying 17-year-old had come off the bench with his side sluggish and drawing with a club in the thick of a relegation battle, and provided more attacking impetus than any of his more senior colleagues managed in the 77 minutes prior to his introduction. His impact was undeniable.
Carragher’s plea was anything but a hot take. Fans and pundits echoed the call for Ngumoha’s rise up the pecking order, but the teenager’s promotion into the starting XI will need a sacrifice. That, for Reds supporters, seems a no-brainer - and it’s not the Egyptian who felt he’d been “thrown under the bus” three months ago.

Is Gakpo really as much of a problem as Liverpool fans make out?
Liverpool relieved to welcome Jeremie Frimpong back into fold
Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:17 , Will CastleArne Slot celebrated the return of Jeremie Frimpong from a hamstring issue against West Ham, easing pressure on Liverpool’s problem position of right-back.
“I don’t think the only position we’ve struggled is the right-back position, I think it’s been more positions, but right full-back is probably the one that stands out most,” said Slot, who has regularly had to turn to midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to fill in at right-back due to injuries to the likes of Frimpong, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez.
“Having Jeremie back is really nice. Because of the fact we play three games in seven days, because if we play Galatasaray, we have the early kick-off afterwards in Brighton, those things you all have to take into account games especially players who come back from injuries.
“But we also know the importance of every game now and that is a challenge. But I'm not the only one who has that.
“I prefer to have this problem, to manage how many minutes he can be given rather than see him with the medical staff doing his recovery.”

Wolves switch things up from Aston Villa win
Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:14 , Will CastleRob Edwards makes four changes from the side that beat Aston Villa on Friday.
Matt Doherty and Ladislav Krejci, the latter of whom returns from suspension, come into defence while Angel Gomes moves into midfield.
Andre, who sustained an injury against Villa, is deemed fit to start, while Joao Gomes moves into a move attacking position.
David Moller Wolfe (fitting name) starts at left wing-back in place of Hugo Bueno.

Liverpool make one change
Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:09 , Will CastleJust the one change for Liverpool from their thrashing of West Ham on the weekend, with Arne Slot welcoming Jeremie Frimpong back to the starting line-up.
The Dutchman came off the bench for his first appearance back from a hamstring injury on the weekend, forcing Liverpool’s fifth goal during a bright cameo.
Other than that, it’s just Dominik Szoboszlai’s new look that grabs the attention.

Closing in on team news
Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:56 , Will CastleJust a few minutes until we learn the teams for tonight’s clash - here’s a reminder of what we already know:
Wolves will likely bring in Angel Gomes to join his namesake Joao Gomes in a double pivot after Andre sustained an injury last time out. Teenage starlet Mateus Mane, who is rumoured to have admirers at Anfield, is near-certain to start.
Florian Wirtz remains unavailable for Liverpool after suffering a back injury in the warm-up ahead of their match at Nottingham Forest. Jeremie Frimpong, meanwhile, made his comeback from a hamstring problem against West Ham, easing pressure on Liverpool’s problem position of right-back.
Wolves taking Liverpool double-header game by game, says Rob Edwards
Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:45 , Will CastleWolves boss Rob Edwards says Tuesday's match with Liverpool will have no bearing on Friday's FA Cup rematch.
"In the Premier League, anyone on their day can give anyone a run for their money and anyone a game," Edwards told a press conference.
"We are showing that at the moment, but this is a different game now. It's a different game to when we played them last time, it's a different game to Friday night.
"To threaten these teams and to compete, we have to be at our best. Liverpool are obviously the current champions, they're an amazing football club, so we know the size of the task - everything that we had on Friday, we're going to need and more.
"They're winning games and that's a sign of a good team, whether you're at your best or not. They've had a lot going on at that football club and some change with new players coming in as well.
"They're looking strong as the season is getting to the really crucial stage. Every game for them now is about winning, whether it's about Champions League qualification or winning trophies, that's what they're used to doing.
"We're preparing for the best of them over these next two games, and I'm sure that's what we'll get."

Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:30 , Will CastleArne Slot has cast doubt over a swift return from injury for Florian Wirtz as Liverpool stare down the barrel of back-to-back meetings with Wolves.
Key midfielder Wirtz was withdrawn from Liverpool’s starting line-up ahead of last week's match at Nottingham Forest after experiencing discomfort with his back during the warm-up, and was absent from the matchday squad for their 5-2 win over West Ham on Saturday.
Asked if there was any update on Wirtz’ recovery, Slot said: “Not anything different to what I said after the game. The game tomorrow probably will come too soon and maybe the game at the weekend.
“Let’s see how that ends up but we hope to have him back somewhere next week.”

What other games are on tonight?
Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:15 , Will CastleTonight’s slightly abnormal kick-off of 8:15pm GMT is preceded by three marginally earlier Premier League clashes, which begin at 7:30pm GMT. Those are...
Bournemouth vs Brentford
Everton vs Burnley
Leeds vs Sunderland
And in the FA Cup, Port Vale play Bristol City after the original fourth-round tie, scheduled for 14 February, was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The simple explanation behind Liverpool’s underperforming forward line
Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:00 , Richard JollyOn Friday, Arne Slot considered the number of league goals Liverpool’s forwards have scored this season and said simply: “That is not enough.” If the message was conveyed privately to his players, they were swift to provide the right kind of answer. Hugo Ekitike scored inside five minutes against West Ham on Saturday. Cody Gakpo ended his own drought.
As no Liverpool attacker had found the net in their previous three Premier League matches, it was a step in the right direction. And yet Slot’s overall analysis probably still rings true to him: Liverpool, who spent £200m on strikers last summer, have too few goals from the front three. Certainly they have a lot fewer than last year.
After 28 league matches of last season, Liverpool’s six main forwards had 51 goals. Now that number is down to 26, little more than half. The first may represent more than could realistically be expected, the second fewer.

Where has this Wolves resurgence come from?
Tuesday 3 March 2026 17:45 , Will CastleWolves are doomed for relegation, sitting 14 points adrift from safety with 10 games to go. But if we’re being honest, they haven’t looked like a team destined for the drop as of late.
Molineux has witnessed two of the biggest upsets of the season over the past two weeks, with Rob Edwards’ men first holding leaders Arsenal to a 2-2 draw before stunning high-flying Aston Villa with a comfortable 2-0 win!
Both results could well prove pivotal to both sides in achieving their respective ambitions - whether that be title or Champions League-based - and with Liverpool also in the hunt for top five, can Wolves hurt another of the division’s top teams?

James Milner: Jurgen Klopp told me to have a break when I retire – but then I’m running marathons
Tuesday 3 March 2026 17:30 , Will CastleHere’s our interview with legendary former Liverpool midfielder James Milner, who broke the record for most Premier League appearances last weekend...
Walking into Brighton’s Elite Football Performance Centre, I was swiftly approached by a member of the club’s communications team. “Have you got the frames?” he asked this bemused writer, who only had his phone, laptop and notepad with him. It turns out he was after a different Will; not from The Independent, but from Guinness World Records. We were both here for James Milner.
For Milner, his record-breaking 654th Premier League appearance was just another game. “Massive victory on the road, delighted for the boys and travelling fans, thanks for the support,” read his very ordinary Instagram post, with the comments limited, after Brighton’s hard-fought win at Brentford. No self-congratulations, no fuss. It was very run-of-the-Milner.
The 40-year-old had his priorities straight. “I’ve always just tried to get on with my job and keep my head down really,” Milner said, ironically surrounded by journalists – and the aforementioned GWR dignitary, adorned in the trademark blue blazer and tie – who had all congregated on the south coast to discuss his remarkable milestone. “I know obviously there’s been a lot of talk around this sort of thing, but for me, I just want to do my job and [was] especially pleased to get the win, that was so important for us at the weekend. So to contribute to that, that’s always number one.”

Arne Slot admits he gets no ‘joy’ from Premier League set-piece dominance
Tuesday 3 March 2026 17:15 , Will CastleLiverpool head coach Arne Slot has expressed a distinct lack of enjoyment for the current style of football prevalent in the Premier League, though he concedes it represents "the new reality" of the game.
"First of all you have to accept it. I think it is mainly here in the Premier League; if I watch other leagues I don’t think there is so much emphasis on set-pieces," he stated, drawing a stark contrast with the Eredivisie, where he observes goals disallowed and fouls on goalkeepers called more frequently.
"Here you can almost hit a goalkeeper in his face the referee will say just go on. Do I like it? My football heart doesn’t like it. Now most of the games I see in the Premier League are not, for me, a joy to watch.
"But it is always interesting because it is so competitive and that’s what makes this league great because there is so much competitiveness – everyone can win against everyone.”

The first time was so nice...
Tuesday 3 March 2026 17:10 , Will CastleIt’s not often that two teams play each other in an identical fixture twice in the space of three days.
But that’s the scenario that Wolves and Liverpool find themselves in, playing tonight in the Premier League before squaring up in the FA Cup on Friday.
One less team to study match footage of, I guess.

Jeremie Frimpong, meanwhile, made his comeback from a hamstring problem against West Ham, easing pressure on Liverpool’s problem position of right-back.

Wolves vs Liverpool live
Tuesday 3 March 2026 17:00 , Will CastleLiverpool strive to avoid becoming the latest victims of bottom club Wolves’ surprise resurgence as Arne Slot’s side look to sure up their place in the Premier League’s top five.
Despite being 14 points off safety, Wolves have not looked like a side doomed for relegation of late, with Rob Edwards’ side boasting results against teams in the top four in their last two home outings. They notched a late draw against leaders Arsenal two weeks ago before dispatching high-flying Aston Villa in a Midlands derby on Friday night.
Wolves will hope their run of upsets can continue against the Reds, who have have won three league games on the trot since losing to Manchester City at home on 8 February and travel to Molineux off the back of Saturday’s 5-2 thrashing of strugglers West Ham.
Liverpool will be seeing a lot of Wolverhampton this week, with tonight’s clash coming just three days before they return to the Black Country to face this opposition in the FA Cup fifth round.
