Wolves manager Bruno Lage reacts to reports of Cristiano Ronaldo 'unhappiness' at Manchester United

Wolves manager Bruno Lage has jokingly thrown his side's hat in the ring to sign Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo if the opportunity arises.

The Portuguese tactician reacted to recent reports surrounding the 36-year-old suggested he was unhappy at Old Trafford.

Speculation saw Ronaldo linked with a return to Real Madrid, but talk of a United departure has been shot down by the five-time Ballon d'Or winners agent, Jorge Mendes.

Lage, who is preparing his side to face the ex-Juventus marksman on Monday, took the opportunity in his pre-match press conference to offer the forward Molineux as a potential destination.

"If they are not happy with him, I have a place for him here," he joked. "But I know they are happy with him."

Ronaldo scored his 803rd career goal and 132nd United goal against Burnley as he cheekily flicked into the empty net after Wayne Hennessey brilliantly denied Scott McTominay.

Despite some claiming he might have a negative influence on the current squad, he has eight goals in 16 Premier League appearances, adding a further six in the Champions League.

Reports have coincided with Ralf Rangnick's introduction to the Premier League after he was named the interim manager on a six-month contract.

It was claimed that Ronaldo would struggle to fit into his system, although stats and his standout showing against the Clarets suggest otherwise.

Lage added: "When you look for a player the most important thing is to see what he can give to your team. When you have a player like him who can score goals, it is hard to believe he is 36.

"He has been at this level since he was very young. He is a machine, he wants to score, to score, to score.

"He is a massive player, I think any team in the world would want a player like him."
