Wolves make decisions over red card appeals ahead of crucial Nottingham Forest clash

Wolves are expected to appeal a red card shown to Matheus Nunes, meaning he could be available for the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest, according to reports.

The midfielder, who was on the substitutes bench, was shown a red card by referee Michael Salisbury following Leeds’ final goal in the 4-2 defeat at Molineux on Saturday afternoon. Nunes was dismissed after protesting that the goal should have been disallowed due to a foul on Adama Traore in the build-up to the goal.

The Telegraph now report that Wolves are set to ‘submit video evidence’ to the FA showing that there was no violent conduct by Nunes. It is also claimed that the player was provoked by a remark made by the assistant linesman.

As things stand, Nunes faces a three-match ban due to his red card, with the first of those coming in the crucial clash against Nottingham Forest after the international break. But if the appeal is successful, then he will be available for the game.

Wolves travel to the City Ground on Saturday 1 April (3pm kick off), with just three places and one point separating the two teams in the Premier League table. Forest are in 16th, two points above the bottom three, while Wolves are in 13th, just one point above.

One player who is not expected to be available for the game is Wolves full-back Jonny. The defender was also shown a straight red card for a studs-up challenge in the second half.

There was an original suggestion that Wolves would also appeal that decision. However, the Telegraph says that it is ‘unlikely’ after the club reviewed the incident.

That therefore means that the full-back will be suspended for three matches, starting with the trip to the City Ground after the international break. The left-back has played a total of 23 games in all competitions this season.
