WOLVERHAMPTON, England: Diogo Jota scored a hat-trick — including the last-gasp winner — as Wolverhampton Wanderers withstood a stiff second-half challenge from Leicester City to earn a 4-3 Premier League victory on Saturday at Molineux Stadium.
With the win, Wolves move into eighth place on 32 points, one ahead of Leicester.
Jota netted the opener from Joao Moutinho’s cross after four minutes, and eight minutes later it was 2-0 when Ryan Bennett headed in after out-jumping Harry Maguire.
Two minutes after halftime, Demarai Gray raced clear and tucked a fine finish beyond Rui Patricio to get the visitors on the board. Then Harvey Barnes’s shot, on his first Premier League start, was deflected in by Conor Coady on 51 minutes.
Ruben Neves set Jota free to make it 3-2 for the hosts, before a towering header by Wes Morgan levelled the match again with just three minutes left. But Jota had the last word.
Trivia buffs take note: The last time Wolves hosted Leicester in the top flight was back in October 2003, when they also won 4-3, but in that match they had to come back from a 3-0 halftime deficit.
