Wolves boss Nuno told to reject any Arsenal advance by West Ham's Manuel Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini has called on Nuno Espirito Santo to reject any interest from Arsenal and stay at Wolves .

The Portuguese 45-year-old is in the frame to succeed Unai Emery at the Emirates with Wolves in the top seven of the Premier League and into the knockout stages of the Europa League.

But West Ham boss Pellegrini insists it would not be “correct” for Santo to leave for north London in mid-season.

Pellegrini said: “I don't think a serious manager can leave a club for another during the season. That's what I think. So, for me, I think it would be strange.

“Maybe it’s honour, responsibility. Maybe it is easier for you to be sacked. But for me I will never leave a club because I have a better option in a good moment.

“It’s exactly the same as Brendan Rodgers. Both managers are in a good moment and I don’t think they would throw it all out for another option.

“In my way of thinking, I think it's impossible for me to do it. So I don't think that they will do it.”

Pellegrini has departed his clubs at the end of the season at each of his last five clubs - four in Europe and the other in China.

Speaking ahead of West Ham’s game against Santo’s Wolves side at the London Stadium on Wednesday night, he insisted he’d never left any club in the lurch.

He added: “No, never. Never. Never. I never. First of all, I finished for the most part of all my contracts except at Real Madrid .

“But I don't think that is a correct way to try to leave my club for another because in that moment you're doing well.”

Pellegrini dismissed the idea that the opportunity of a big club like Arsenal was one that the manager of a club outside the top six could turn down.

“Why?” he said. “If you believe in your work, if you’re doing well with the club, finish the contract with the club and you will have another club.”
