Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo explains the key to victory against Manchester City

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo has praised the efforts of his side after they condemned Manchester City to their second defeat of the season at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite City dominating possession, the visitors had the better chances and should have took the lead early in the first-half.

City continued to pile on the pressure but were caught on the break twice, Adama Traore bagging a brace meaning Liverpool stretched their lead at the top of the table to eight points.

Nuno praised the efforts of his players and admitted how difficult it was to face Pep Guardiola's men.

"The first half was all about how the team was organised, we didn’t concede too many chances in the first half to City. We worked very hard," he said in his post-match press conference.

"We had to try and search for another chance while maintaining the balance of the team.

"It’s so hard to control City, so, so hard.

"The idea of football that Pep has is circulating the ball at speed.

"Of course you are frustrated but you know you have to keep on going."

The Portuguese tactician claimed that City were a much different side to the team that won the Premier League by one point last season which gave his side hope that they were weaknesses to be exploited.

He added: "Different? Of course. Football is evolution.

"City is not the same City that they were last season so you have to search and find the right points and areas to exploit.

"When you play against City what you have to think about is how you stop them from playing. This is the beginning of everything.

"The way the players did it? They run like crazy!"
