Wolves boss makes big claim about Newcastle United game as hosts target season first

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Bruno Lage says he doesn't care if his team plays badly as long as they get their first home win against Newcastle tomorrow.

Newcastle head to Molineux tomorrow for a 3pm kick-off against a Wolves team who already have two league wins under their belt.

However, the two wins came away at Watford and Southampton and the Midlands side is still to get a win in front of their home fans.

Asked if he would be happy if the team played poorly but won against the Magpies, Lage told the Press Association: "If you said that would happen I would sign it, you play badly and win.

"But I think the team will play better. It's not just playing with the ball, sometimes we play well when we do but we are not doing right things when we don’t.

"I say to my players every day, if Jose [Sa] does a long ball to Raul [Jimenez] and he scores it's good because he has seen the space behind the defenders.”

The Wolves manager also took time to praise Jimenez, who scored the winning goal at Southampton last week after nearly a year out with a life-threatening head injury, which was suffered in a clash with Arsenal’s David Luiz.

Lage said: "He is comfortable because, after what happened, he is living day-by-day, enjoying the moment and the goals will come.

"He knows now he needs to score more goals for us and we are here to support him, the fans are there to support. It builds more confidence.

"He is enjoying the moment and I think it is the best way to live our lives like that, in the moment, and not to think what will happen in the future.”

As well as the threat from Jimenez tomorrow, Newcastle are also expected to be up against Adama Traoré, who was dropped last week, while in-form Portuguese winger Daniel Podence is also tipped to start or make an appearance as substitute after scoring in the Carabao Cup last week.
