Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction

Molineux Stadium, the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers - (Getty Images)

Follow live coverage as Wolverhampton Wanderers face Brentford today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC 1 - 1 Brentford FC

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

18:01

Brentford miss out on a place in next season's Conference League with a 1-1 against Wolves on the final day. They led for much of the game, with Mbeumo scoring his 20th league goal of the season, but Wolves continued to press forward, with several chances for Cunha and Semedo, before Munetsi finally found the breakthrough on 75 minutes to level the scoreline. The point means that Brentford finish 10th, five points off the final European spot. Meanwhile Wolves finish the season in 16th position after results elsewhere saw them drop down the table. That's all from us today, we hope you enjoyed the game!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

FULL-TIME: WOLVES 1-1 BRENTFORD

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:56

CHANCE! A deep corner is whipped into the box from the left and Collins meets it at the far post, heading it down, but King makes a great save with his feet to deny Brentford late in stoppage time.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:54

Brentford are having a late push forward in search of a winner, but it doesn't look like it's going to be enough to try and get that final European spot.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:53

There will be a minimum of FOUR minutes added time played at the end of the second half.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:52

It looks like the two sides are going to share the points here, unless we see a late winner but both seem quite happy to take a point in the final game of the season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:43

If someone is going to win this game today, you'd probably say Wolves are looking the more likely, with Brentford sitting deep and soaking up all the pressure at the moment.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:42

Blocked! Cunha with the effort from inside the box, but Brentford are defending well and make the block, to send the ball over the crossbar.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:40

Double substitution coming up for the visitors now, with Damsgaard the man heading off and he has been replaced by Jensen.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:40

Can Wolves go on and win this one now? Brentford have seen very little of the ball in the Wolves half of the pitch in this second half.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:40

Substitution Kevin Schade Igor Thiago Nascimento Rodrigues

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:34

Assist Jørgen Strand Larsen

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:32

Semedo is booked after he deliberately stops Wissa from breaking forward on the counter-attack.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:32

Mbeumo now has 20 Premier League goals and Wissa has 19 goals this season for Brentford. Should Wissa also score today, they’d be the first duo to score 20+ Premier League goals for a team in a season since Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in 2018-19 for Liverpool (each scored 22).

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:27

Brighton have turned the game around in their fixture, they now lead 2-1 against Tottenham after a second half comeback. This means that as it stands, Brentford won't have the chance of playing the Conference League next season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:24

Substitution Gonçalo Manuel Ganchinho Guedes Jørgen Strand Larsen

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:24

Substitution Rayan Aït-Nouri Rodrigo Martins Gomes

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:22

Brentford are keeping their shape well and it's frustrating the home side, they are struggling to get in behind and create clear-cut chances in the penalty area.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:20

It will be interesting to see how long Wolves leave it before making any changes, as despite several chances in front of goal, Flekken needs to be tested much more if they are to find a goal. The Brentford defence are coping well with the pressure at the moment.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:18

Yellow Card Yoane Wissa Bileko

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:17

You get the feeling that a Wolves goal is coming if they keep the pressure up on Brentford, with Doherty the latest to have a go, this time with a header at the near post, but it flies into the sidenetting.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:13

Having been unbeaten in seven Premier League games across March and April (W6 D1), Wolves have lost all three in May. They’ve already had three separate runs of 4+ defeats in the competition this season, having not had any in their first six campaigns following promotion in 2018.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:11

Good save! Another good move by Wolves, that lands them a shot at goal, this time it falls to Ait-Nouri, who drills a powerful effort at goal. However, Flekken stands firm and palms it away.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:08

CHANCE! Mbeumo goes close to a second! Brentford counter quickly and catch Wolves out at the back, with the striker picking the ball up in the box and he tries a cheeky chip towards the far post. However, his shot has too much on it and flies just over the crossbar.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:07

Good opportunity! Cunha races past Collins down the left wing and gets to the byline, before drilling a low cross towards the near post that forces Flekken to block with his legs.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

17:05

The second half is under way!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:56

As it stands Brentford sit eighth in the table and could qualify for the Conference League due to Brighton losing against Tottenham elsewhere. Meanwhile Wolves need to show more quality on the ball, they've had more possession, but have been limited to shots from distance so far.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:54

Brentford are keeping their slim European spot hopes alive at half-time as they lead 1-0 over Wolves, with Mbeumo scoring his 20th Premier Leage goal of the season on 20 minutes to fire them ahead. Wissa almost doubled the visitors lead just before the interval, with a lovely touch, turn and strike, but Sa denied him to keep it at just one-goal. Wolves have seen more of the ball and have had the better chances, with several falling to Cunha, but the striker has been unable to find a way past Flekken in goal. The home sides best opportunity came in stoppage time, when Semedo volleyed from the edge of the box, but again the keeper came to Brentford’s rescue with a fine save. Due to their lead, Brentford have a 1.23 xG, compared to 0.39 xG for Wolves at the moment, so they need to make some of their chances count in the second period.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:49

HALF-TIME: WOLVES 0-1 BRENTFORD

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:49

SAVE! Semedo with a terrific volley from 20 yards out, it appears to be heading into the bottom right corner of the net. However, Flekken makes a superb diving save to tip it wide.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:47

There will be a minimum of one minute of added time played at the end of the first half.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:47

GREAT CHANCE! Wissa almost doubles Brentford's lead! A long ball comes over the top of the Wolves defence and Wissa takes it out of the air with a lovely first touch, then turns and volleys an effort at goal. However, Sa is equal to it and makes a great stop. It should be 2-0!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:44

Andre this time with the strike from distance, but he gets too much on his effort and it flies just over the visitors crossbar. The chances are starting to add up for Wolves.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:44

CHANCE! Another opportunity falls to Cunha, this time on the volley from the edge of the box, but again his strike is too close to Flekken, who is able to make a good save. Either side of the keeper and that would've been tricky for him.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:43

Cunha has certainly been a threat for the home side today, he's had a couple of chances already, but Flekken has been equal to them in the Brentford goal.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:42

There's not too long left to play here at Molineux before the break, can Wolves find the equaliser before the half-time whistle?

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:37

It’s a bit too sloppy in midfield by Wolves at the moment, they are handing Brentford the ball back in silly areas and when the visitors do get on the ball, they are slowing it down and taking their time.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:36

Yellow Card João Victor Gomes da Silva

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:31

Good effort! Cunha finds some time and space on the edge of the box and tries to curl the ball into the bottom right corner of the net, but Flekken reads it well and gets down quickly to make the save.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:30

We're almost at the half an hour mark now between Wolves and Brentford and it remains the visitors who have the advantage, after Mbeumo's strike following a poor defensive display by the home side.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:29

That's Mbeumo's 20th Premier League goal of the season and Brentford have avoided defeat in their last eight matches when scoring first in the Premier League, since a 1-3 loss to Arsenal on 1st January 2025.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:27

Brentford look quite happy to sit deep and soak up the Wolves possession, with the home side unable to do much with the ball at the moment, it's all in the middle or their own half.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:26

This goal moves Brentford up to eighth place and potentially a Conference League spot next season for the visitors. However, there is still a lot of football left to play here today.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:22

CHANCE! Brentford with their first opportunity of the game, with Wissa trying to work space for the shot in the box, but he gets crowded out and eventually finds Schade, who does fire a shot at goal. However, Sa gets down quickly and makes a great save.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:21

Assist Christian Thers Nørgaard

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:19

That's a few decent chances for Wolves in the last couple of minutes, they seem to be getting a lot of joy down the right as all of their opportunities have come from that side. Brentford need to tighten up down the flank.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:16

Lewis-Potter gives the ball away to Semedo in the final third and he races forward and gets a shot away at goal, but it lacks power and Flekken gets down and makes a good save.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:16

CHANCE! Munetsi races in behind the Brentford defence after a lovely flick on down the right wing and he races clear with only Flekken to beat, however, he drags his strike well wide of the Brentford goal. He should be doing better there.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:13

Wolves have lost their final league match in each of the last seven seasons by an aggregate score of 19-2. They’ve also lost their last match in nine of their 10 campaigns as a Premier League side, with the exception a 2-1 win over Sunderland in 2009-10.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:12

Good chance! Wolves work the ball well down the right and a cross comes in, with Cunha able to meet it at the far post, but his header is too close to Flekken, who makes a good save.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:09

It's Wolves with the majority of the poessession early on, but Brentford are keeping their shape and not allowing them any time or space in the final third. Cunha just managed to get a shot away, but the strike is poor and flies well wide.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:06

Slow start here by both sides, there's not much urgency to get forward and create an early opportunity. Wolves managed to win a corner down the right, with Lewis-Potter making the block, but the resulting set piece comes to nothing.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

16:03

A long throw-in from Kayode causes problems in the Wolves half, as it flies over the top of the home side's defence with Wissa chasing after it. Sa has to come out and make the clearance.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

15:40

Meanwhile Wolves have lost their last three league games and will be wanting to end the season on a high note in front of their home supporters, with a victory securing a 14th position finish.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford

15:35

Brentford have an outside chance of clinching a Conference League spot today, they sit ninth and they need to win and hope that Brighton to lose. However, they then need Chelsea to drop out of the Champions League spots, in sixth or seventh place, plus they need the Blues to win the Conference League final on Wednesday against Real Betis. So it’ll be a tough ask!
