Wolverhampton stabbing: Two dead, one critical and police officer injured in 'domestic' attack

A knifeman stabbed a woman to death and left a second woman in a critical condition after a "domestic stabbing" attack in Wolverhampton, police say.

Armed officers and a dog unit rushed to a block of flats in Leasowes Drive, in the Merry Hill area of the city, also known as Warstones, where it is believed the man attacked two women before stabbing himself.

Officers said they used stun grenades as they stormed the flat in a bid to distract and detain the knifeman.

A woman believed to be in her 30s died at the scene, and a man, also believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead a short time later.

Another woman, believed to be in her 50s, was in hospital with critical stomach wounds.

A police officer was also treated for minor injuries by on-the-scene ambulance staff but was quickly discharged after the tragedy at around 9.45am today.

An ambulance spokesman said the man and woman suffered "very serious stab wounds" and said the second woman was in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with "potentially life-threatening stab wounds".

"Sadly, despite best efforts by ambulance staff, it was not possible to save either of them and they confirmed them dead at the scene," said the spokesman.

Nick Humphreys, a reporter with the Express and Star, said the nearby St Michael's Primary School was temporarily on lockdown.
