Wollaton Hall makes surprise Netflix appearance in new trending Christmas film

A new Christmas film currently trending on Netflix features features - if only for a few seconds - an iconic Nottingham landmark.

'The Princess Switch: Switched Again' starring Vanessa Hudgens in three roles is currently third in the UK's top 10 trending films on the popular film-streaming service, Netflix.

And at around 25 minutes into the family-friendly Christmas movie, there is an establishing shot showing 'Pembroke Estate' home of the fictional Lady Fiona Pembroke, played by Hudgens.

But any true Nottingham local will spot that the stately home used is none other than the Grade 1 listed Wollaton Hall.

The hall is surrounded by snow but the pathway leading up the hall and circling in front of the steps is still visible.

However, it doesn't appear in the list of official filming locations so it's unlikely any filming actually took place there.

Directed by Mike Rohl, the film is a sequel to 'The Princess Switch' where an everyday woman switches lives with the fiancée to a prince who happens to look exactly like her.

Of course, it wouldn't be the first time the 400-year-old piece of architecture has graced the silver screen, with it being known to many by its other name, Wayne Manor.

In 2011 Wollaton Hall was used in the Christopher Nolan Batman sequel, 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Hollywood stars including Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine were all on set during the filming.

The Hall is actually five miles north of the village of Gotham. Batman writers acknowledged the links between how the fictional city was named and the Nottinghamshire village in the 1990s.
