Wollaton Christmas lights event cancelled as Nottingham moves into Tier 4

The Christmas at Wollaton event has been cancelled as Nottinghamshire prepares to enter tier 4 restrictions.

The county will be placed under the new restrictions starting from 00.01am on Thursday, December 31.

The event, which was initially due to run until January 6 next year, will close as of December 31.

Organisers say the decision was a "difficult" one but was made for safety reasons.

A spokesperson for the park commented: “It is with huge regret that we have to announce the early closure of Christmas at Wollaton, effective from the 31 December 2020.

"We have taken the difficult decision to close for the safety of all our visitors and staff and in line with the new Government restrictions.”

All ticket holders are being contacted directly with information relating to tickets already booked.

Nottingham’s Wollaton Hall & Deer Park had been transformed into an enchanted light experience to create Christmas at Wollaton Hall.

Since it opened on December 3, more than 100,000 people have visited.

Stuart Galbraith, the CEO of Kilimanjaro which organised the event, said: “It has been wonderful to be able bring a bit of light and joy to Nottingham in a difficult year and we plan to be back bigger and better next year.”

Announcing the news on their Facebook Page, Wollaton Park said: "It is with huge regret that we must announce the closure of Christmas at Wollaton. effective from 31 December 2020.

"This evening's bookings [December 30] will go ahead as scheduled and the event will not reopen tomorrow.

"All ticket holders will be contacted ASAP regarding their bookings.

"However, we cannot wait to be back bigger and better in 2021!"
