Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst responds to Arsenal transfer speculation

Wolfsburg's Wout Weghorst has admitted it would be difficult to turn down a move to the Premier League as speculation continues to link him with Arsenal.

Weghorst, who joined the German club from AZ in 2018, scored 16 goals and created three assists in the Bundesliga this season, and his fine performances have seen him being touted for a possible move to a bigger club.

Speaking in an interview with BILD , the Dutch international said he will consider any offers he receives, but believes a move may be complicated due to the financial effects of the coronavirus crisis.

When asked about whether Wolfsburg fans should be worried about him leaving, Weghorst said: “Nobody has to be afraid. It is good for a club to get a lot of money again after investing in a player.

“I have ambitions and want to achieve the highest. In the past two years I have been able to show that I can run on the level and that there is more for me.

“We discussed that we should sit down if something exciting should come for me. But because of Corona, we have a strange market.

“I get a lot of recognition in Wolfsburg, I play an important role in sport and in human terms. I feel good, my family too.

“For me, it is also important whether VfL will do everything in its power to win titles in the future. But I trust the sporting leadership."

Arsenal's forward options for next season are very much up in the air, and any move for Weghorst may depend on what happens with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, both of whom continue to be linked with a move away from the club.

It is also not clear how much Wolfsburg would be willing to accept to sell the player, especially given his contract is not due to expire until 2023.
